ATTENTION, PLEASE!
Below are some updates I think are important to your ASL learning. Please get in the habit of checking here for updates or announcements several days before we meet. That way, you will have time to practice, and you will be ready for class on Tuesday.

LAST CLASS ALERT (posted May 11, 2017)
Tuesday, May 16, is our last class meeting. (That’s next week!)
We’ll have a party with special treats and fun sign language games to review the vocabulary you learned this year.
If you are turning in a research paper, you have two options:
Some students and parents have asked about next year's Sign Language Class, and I wish I could give you a definitive answer now, but the truth is I probably won’t know which school I’ll be at until the last week in August. If I’m working at Senior High School (which is what I’m hoping), I will definitely have a weekly, afternoon Sign Language Class! (That class could be either at SHS or Lewis and Clark again.) Feel free to check back here in August; I’ll post information about the class as soon as I can! Or you can email me; I’ll be checking both emails (above) throughout the summer.
Plan to join us next Tuesday for food and games and say good-bye to your signing friends before summer!
I hope to see you all one last time!
Fondly,
Mrs. Fischer

UPDATES (posted February 22, 2017)
LEARNING A SECOND LANGUAGE - new video under "Cool Videos from the Web"
Do you think it's difficult to learn another language? Some people do. I found a great TEDx lecture about how to learn a second (or third, or fourth, or fifth!) language easily... Check out the video, then let me know what you think!

ASL UNIVERSITY
As we move into the second half of the year, we're changing our focus... We'll be using Dr. Bill Vicar's ASL University (aslUniversity.com) for vocabulary and practice sentences so we can learn to use ASL in a more authentic way. This will also enable students to get credit for taking ASL I. You can read all about it here. (Click the sentence.) I'll be happy to be your proctor, or you can communicate directly with Dr. Bill; he's pretty awesome! Let me know if you have any questions, and I'll do my best to answer them.
PLEASE NOTE: If you want me to be your proctor, I will need to monitor your quiz and test scores. That means you will still take the quizzes and tests online, but you will need to take a screen shot of the final score and send it to me at [email protected], OR print it and hand it to me. You will also be required to write a paper worth 100 points.
ALSO NOTE: I will indicate which lesson we're on each week in the calendar below, so if you miss a class, you'll know where we are and can easily catch up. Each lesson builds on previous vocabulary. I'M HAVING TROUBLE INSERTING THE CALENDAR, BUT I'LL KEEP TRYING!
WHERE ARE THE LESSONS? I will put links to each lesson and the corresponding quiz here in our website. You can use this path with the tabs above:

About This Class
Intro to American Sign Language (ASL) is designed for beginning ASL students who live in Billings, Laurel, and surrounding areas. We meet weekly at Lewis and Clark Middle School where we learn ASL vocabulary, Deaf Culture, and Deaf history. We'll watch cool ASL videos, play fun games, and make new friends.
There's no pressure to participate in class, but the more you participate, the more you will learn and grow in ASL. This is a SAFE PLACE to learn and make new friends, so don't be afraid to try something new! All are welcome here!
NOTE: Classes start the week of September 5. Come join us!
Click on the button below to check out my video about the class.
(All videos open in a new web browser to make it easy for you to return to this site.)
